New Village Farm introduces our parent-child fall whittling class series. Outdoors rain or shine. This class is designed to build your and your child’s whittling skills through basic spoon carving.
We invite you to explore learning this basic craft together. Whittling is an age-old activity that can enhance connection to nature and each other. Many of us find conversation to be easier when our hands and focal attention are engaged, making this a great way to be together. We also develop confidence for meeting uncertain times through building a basic ability to work with our hands .
You and your child will learn to select and sustainably harvest the wood, to whittle a green spoon, to store it while it is in process, to safely handle and sharpen the necessary tools, and to finish it for whatever purpose you intend.
Open to parents or guardians and children 10 years and up. One parent per child attending. Straight sided knife required, no folding knives. Feel free to bring your own equipment: knife, hook knife, strop and/or sharpening stone. We will also have knives available to purchase at the following prices.
